*Taking the matter of safety of roads and houses seriously, Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi gave consent to RVNL for channelization of Chandrabhaga river as a temporary arrangement and directed immediate action*
In view of resolving the possibility of floods in the surrounding areas due to silt deposited in Chandrabhaga river during monsoon, Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi gave in-principle consent to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited for channelization of Chandrabhaga river and directed immediate action on it. Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi has also given instructions for a survey by joint teams of RVNL, Irrigation, Public Works and Forest Department in view of the safety of the bridge built on Chandrabhaga. She has clarified that along with channelization of the river route, the safety of the foundation of the bridge built on it must be ensured. CS has given instructions to ensure hydrological survey of the bridge from IIT Roorkee. In a meeting related to the channelization of Chandrabhaga river in the secretariat, RVNL officials informed that silt ( debris) etc. is continuously accumulating in the Chandrabhaga river for years, due to which the slopes of the river bank and the only approach road are also getting damaged. Along with this, the NH road bridge can also be damaged due to the accumulation of debris in the river and there is a possibility of flood in the village Dhalwala Colony situated on the left bank of Chandrabhaga river.
Taking the matter of safety of roads and houses seriously, Chief Secretary Smt Raturi has given instructions to RVNL for channelization as a temporary arrangement and also for its permanent solution. Under the permanent solution, river training work will be done using Gabion walls on Chandrabhaga river, in which the road and houses built on the left bank of Chandrabhaga river will be protected by launching Aprons & Spurs.
Officials of the concerned departments including Secretary Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha were present in the meeting.
