Hon’ble Supreme Court today dismissed a PIL seeking the reintroduction of the paper ballot system in Indian elections. The Court rejected petitioner’s claims of EVM tampering, highlighting the inconsistency of leaders who question EVM reliability only when they lose elections. Dismissing the petition, the bench remarked :
“What happens is, if you win the elections, EVMs are not tampered. When you lose elections, EVMs are tampered. When Chandrababu Naidu lost, he said EVMs can be tampered. Now, this time, Jagan Mohan Reddy lost, he said EVMs can be tampered.”
The bench comprising Hounrable Justices Vikram Nath and P.B. Varale found no merit in the petitioner Dr Kaul’s arguments. Justice Nath remarked “Political parties have no problem with this system. You have a problem.”
