*Promoting a quality-based culture is necessary – Chief Minister*
Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the programme organised at the Mukhya Sevak Sadan located at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office on Tuesday on the occasion of the 79th Foundation Day of the Bureau of Indian Standards. Chief Minister said that in the last eight decades, the Bureau of Indian Standards has done remarkable work in the direction of quality, reliability and consumer protection, realizing the mantra of “Quality is the Identity”.
The Chief Minister said that this journey, which started in 1947 as the Indian Standards Institution, has today established itself as a strong foundation for the country’s industrial, scientific and economic progress. He said that through standardisation, certification and quality testing by BIS, not only have industries been made capable of global competition, but the sense of trust and safety in the lives of consumers has also been strengthened. Chief Minister said that today the field of standardisation is no longer limited to the industrial world but has expanded to agriculture, health, road safety, energy, water conservation, disaster management and digital services. He said that the Bureau of Indian Standards is playing an important role in the direction of the future by setting timely standards in areas such as digital security, medical devices, drones, electric vehicles, recycled materials and green energy.
The Chief Minister said that the Bureau of Indian Standards is making a commendable contribution towards establishing a balance between ecology and economy in line with the goals of sustainable development. In the state, awareness and collaborative work regarding standardisation are being carried out by BIS in coordination with various departments including the Public Works Department, Disaster Management, MDDA and UPCL. Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, campaigns like Self-Reliant India and Make in India have become the pillars of the country’s economic and technical progress. He said that it is the Prime Minister’s clear vision that Indian products should become the benchmark of quality in the world, and the role of BIS is extremely important in achieving this goal. The Chief Minister said that the state government is also working towards establishing high-quality standards for its local products, handicrafts, organic agricultural products, medicinal herbs and local food products. He said that the “House of Himalayas” brand has been established with the aim of giving global identity to the traditional products of the state. He said that it is necessary to make quality a habit rather than just a standard so that a quality-based culture can develop as a mass movement. He expressed confidence that the Bureau of Indian Standards, under the policy of “One Nation, One Standard” will make the country a leader in the competition of global standards and will continue to play its important role in Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s resolution to make India a developed nation by the year 2047.
